For this next to the last statement of
the chorus, we have a play on color notes. Our basic chord
is a C chord in second inversion. Click here to listen.
Now to make this more intersting what I did was add 2
color notes following each other. Click
here to listen.
The pattern is G to E, chord notes, F
color note above E, D, color note above C and then C.
This is an example of 2 color notes following each other
before resolving to the chord tone. The pattern is chord
note, chord note color note, color note, chord note and
we wind up on a chord note fo the next chord (G chord)
which is the D note.
This whole process has been done here
with the C chord going to the G chord. We've established
a pattern above. Now in the last section of the chorus
we're going to do the same pattern but with the G chord
going to the C chord. The important thing to take away
from these last 2 measures is that the ear is responding
to and hearing the pattern of notes, not the notes themselves,
so when we repeat the same pattern in the next phrase,
the ear immediately recognizes it and that's what creates
the pleasant esthetic of melody. Note sequences are a
powerful tool for creating unity and esthetic in your
melody.
